If you’ve ever wondered why you keep repeating the same relationship patterns, Pia Mellody wrote the map. A pioneer in trauma and recovery, she developed her model while working at The Meadows treatment center.

She became known for showing how childhood wounds create adult intimacy struggles and for laying out the clearest models for emotions and boundaries in recovery. While my method no longer uses the word “codependency,” her work on it remains a cornerstone — now reframed as antidependence.
